Illuminated Manuscript

This panel was made after a painting by Tena Kelsey (of Blacksburg, Virginia) of a portion of illuminated manuscript from the Book of Kells.  The "braided" portion of this glass is done in mostly opaque green, pink and glue and the inner portions were done in a much less opaque but more highly textured brown to give the illusion of an aged piece of parchment or paper.  The glass is framed in light oak stained poplar and measures approximately 26.5 x 20.5.  The cost for this piece is $250.

Bevelled Water Lily

This panel is a stylized water lily.  The glass around the lily represents different ideas of water and is a combination of different levels of opacity.& These pictures are a good example of what happens to glass during different times of day. Most of the day the outer blue glass looks sort of a cadet blue, when sun comes straight through it though, the glass is much brighter, as in the bottom right picture. It is tricky to take pictures of glass and this different sunlight situation is one reason for that. Kind of cool though that glass almost changes color in different light I think.  measures approximately 19.5x 12.5 The cost for this piece is $80.

Hummingbird and Trumpet Flower

This is a small round panel of a hummingbird  eating from a trumpet flower.  The green glass seen here is iridescent and when light bounces off of it (inside light), a sheen of other colors appear, but when light flows through it, it appears green and textured.  The scene is "framed" by a blue circle.  This piece measures approximately 11 inches across and its cost is $60.

Sunflower and Goldfinch

This piece is a scene of several goldfinch sitting amongst various sunflowers.  Because I enjoy the way sunlight plays with different types of glass, I used several kinds and colors of yellow for the sunflower leaves, and several different colors for the heart of the sunflowers- doing this gives the piece a more natural look I think because in nature things are not necessarily uniform or consistently colored.  The frame on this piece is wood that I removed from my barn in Floyd County, Virginia to especially for this.  The wood is aged, rustic and natural and compliments this scene very well.  The piece measures approximately 26.75 x 21 and its cost is $400.

Abstract Sun

This abstract piece represents a sun-.beams of yellow, orange and clear light are streaming from it's round center. When the actual sun shines through this piece, the shadow on the floor is interesting and attractive because of the degrees of "clear" that I used.  The center piece is a round bevel, that makes an interesting shadow as well as a focal point in the piece.  This measures about 8.75 x 11.25 inches and its cost is $40.

Framed Daffodil

This daffodil is made with a combination of clear and opaque glass.  the glass frame around the flower is iridescent, so that light bouncing off of it (inside light) will bring out many different colors, light passing through it (outside light) will make it look light purple.  The entire piece is framed in a poplar frame stained a light oak color and measures 11.25 x 13.75.  The price for this piece is $45.
